Level check
Is this your level?
- You've never danced, or it's been years.
- You want a structured start, not being thrown into a mixed room.
- You'd rather learn it properly the first time.
Who's teaching you
One team. One job: get you dancing.
Leandro Russo
I'll guide you from your very first step and make sure you leave your first class already dancing. Nobody feels daft in my room.
Marie-Claire Mathias
I'll help you find your ease on the dance floor, one step at a time. Confidence is built, and we build it together.
And 5 more instructors
Trained by Leandro and Marie-Claire, the Sabroso way. You might meet them running a class.
The music is like switching on the sunshine.
Paulina T. · Trustpilot
Sabroso has become so much more than just a dance school for me. What I didn't expect was the amazing community. Every class leaves me smiling.
Aleksandra
It can be daunting as a beginner dancer to ask people for a dance. Everyone is super friendly. If you want to improve your skills and have fun and feel included, this is the place for you.
Lisa T.
A place that became home! Such a warm atmosphere during classes. And obviously a lot of fun.

Quick answers
Things people ask before they book
What if I miss a week?
The four Sundays run back to back, because a month in a row is what locks the basics in. If you know you'll miss one, take the 8 class pass instead and come whenever suits you. After your first month, you can come whenever you like.
Do I need a partner?
No. We rotate partners so you dance with the whole room. Come solo, with a partner, or bring friends.
Can we come as a group?
Yes, please do. Friends, partners, housemates, work mates, birthdays. Book a spot each and come together.
I've never danced. Is this really for me?
If you're looking at the beginners course, yes. It's built for people starting from zero, next to people on their first day too.
What do I wear?
Something comfy you can move in. Any shoes are fine. Bring a bottle of water.
Where do classes happen?
The Tetley, Hunslet Road, Leeds. Easy to reach from the city centre, with parking nearby.

What to Expect in Class
A welcoming, supportive atmosphere
Friendly instructors who explain things clearly
Everyone at the same beginner level
No pressure to be “good”, just to enjoy learning
Many people come on their own, others with friends. All completely normal.
Choosing Your Role (Important)
In Salsa, dancers work in two roles:
Lead: suggests and guides the movements
Follow: responds to those signals and completes the movements
Both roles are equally important and focus on different skills.
When booking this course, you’ll need to choose one role (Lead or Follow) and stay with it for the duration of the course. Each role is learned differently, and consistency helps you progress and feel confident.
About roles and gender
Traditionally, Leads were male and Follows female.
As Salsa has evolved, many schools, including Sabroso, no longer link roles to gender.
At Sabroso, you are welcome to choose either role, regardless of gender.
It’s helpful to know that how strictly roles are linked to gender can depend on how progressive the local dance scene or country is. Some places around the world may still follow more traditional expectations.
In the UK, however, this is rarely an issue. In around 99% of classes, socials, and festivals, dancing any role you choose feels completely normal and comfortable.
